INBDE Board Prep · Opens after the hygiene boards

Pass the INBDE on your first try

The Integrated National Board Dental Examination is the written exam every US state uses for dental licensure. INBDE Board Prep starts with a free readiness diagnostic, then builds your plan around the areas it shows you're weakest in.
The INBDE today: 500 questions over 2 days. Day 1 has 300 standalone questions and 60 case questions; day 2 has 140 case questions.

About the INBDE

The facts that shape how you should study.

Who makes it
The Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE). Prometric gives it in the US and Canada.
Who uses it
Every US state and territory, for all or part of the written exam requirement for licensure.
Length
500 questions over 2 days: 360 on day 1 and 140 on day 2, within 7 days of each other at the same center.
Cases
200 questions are built around patient cases. The other 300 stand alone.
What it covers
The Domain of Dentistry: 10 Foundation Knowledge areas and 56 Clinical Content areas in 3 groups: diagnosis and treatment planning, oral health management, and practice and profession.
Passing
Reported as pass or fail. A scale score of 75 is the passing standard, and it isn't a percentage.
Results
Usually within 3 weeks.
Retakes
At least 60 days between attempts, no more than 4 in a year, and you must pass within 5 years or 5 attempts.

What INBDE Board Prep will include

  • A free readiness diagnostic

A timed set across the Domain of Dentistry that scores you by area and builds your plan from the weakest.

  • Case-based questions

200 of the exam's 500 questions sit on a patient case. Ours do too, with new cases written on request.

  • An AI tutor

Every choice explained. Ask a follow‑up and it answers from the same checked sources.

  • Plain-English mode

For internationally trained dentists: US terms, abbreviations and systems explained the first time they appear.

  • Flashcards that adapt

The cards you find hard come back sooner.

  • 2 full mock exams

500 questions over 2 sittings, timed like the real exam.

Every lesson will be 5 minutes or less and work on your phone.

Trained outside the US?

The INBDE is often the first US exam an internationally trained dentist takes, usually before applying to an advanced standing program.

  • Plain‑English mode explains US terms, drug names, abbreviations and insurance and practice rules the first time they appear.
  • Graduates of programs that aren't CODA‑accredited apply with a certification of eligibility signed by their school's dean or registrar. The candidate guide explains the steps.
  • Most states also want a degree from a CODA‑accredited program and a clinical exam. Our pathway finder lays out the usual order.
See the exams on your way to a US license

The usual road to a US dental license for an internationally trained dentist: the INBDE first, then an advanced standing program for a degree from a CODA-accredited program, then a clinical exam such as ADEX, then the state license. Your state board decides what it needs.

The usual order in most states. Your state board sets the rules.

If you reach the readiness target in your course, sit the exam while your access is active and don't pass, send us your official result within 30 days. We'll extend your access by the length of your plan, free, as many times as you need.

You can get a full refund within 7 days of buying if you've used less than 10% of the course. After that, the pass-or-extend promise applies instead of refunds.

How every question gets checked

Every lesson and question goes through the same 6 steps before you see it, and after.

  1. 1

    Named sources

We start from the exam's published outline, named textbooks and other published sources.

  2. 2

    AI first draft

AI drafts the lesson or question from those sources.

  3. 3

    Disagreements flagged

Where sources disagree, it's flagged for the reviewer.

  4. 4

    Licensed sign-off

A licensed dentist reviews and signs off every question before anything is published.

  5. 5

    You can flag it

Every lesson and question will have a “Something's wrong here” button.

  6. 6

    Re-checked each season

When an exam owner updates its outline or manual, the affected questions are reviewed again.
